Today marks 10 years since the Rotaract Club of New Kingston (NKRC) was chartered under the sponsorship of our parent club the Rotary Club of New Kingston. The club was chartered on April 1, 2004 under the leadership of Charter President Marsha Smikle. Since then the club has seen tremendous growth and made numerous service milestones in Jamaica and District 7020.  From our signature projects life Feeding the Homeless and assisting with the JFLL program at Saxthorpe Methodist to our newer initiatives such as the Wing Sauce competition, NKRC has proven to be a very multifaceted organization that caters to not only the needs of our society but also members. We are a family of young professionals using our knowledge and skill set to positively impact the future of our nations.

Fellowship is an important part of NKRC and it is our knack for fellowship that has lead to numerous collaborations with Rotaract & Rotary Clubs within and outside District 7020.

We have also produced strong leaders which is the leading contributor to the numerous members of NKRC who have be selected or nominated to served our district in various capacities. Our current District Rotaract Representative (head Rotaract in District 7020) is Past President Julie Ramchandani and we currently have five members serving under her able leadership.

We have won a few awards over the years because of the excellent activities we have been able to implement:

—2011-2012 Bronze Award Recipient —

2011-2012 Best  Club Service Award —

2012-2013 First Quarter Silver Award —

2012-2013 Gold Award Recipient

2014 Zone 34 Public Image Citation

As we celebrate this milestone, we look forward to continuing to strive for excellence as we “Fellowship through Service.”

Happy World Rotaract Day!

Today Rotaractors all around the world are celebrating 46 years of this wonderful organization. World Rotaract Day commemorates the charter of the first Rotaract Club, the Rotaract Club of North Charlotte,Carolina on March 13, 1968. Rotaract, was created by Rotary International as a combination of the words “Rotary” and “Action”. The aim of the program was stated to be “to develop leadership and responsible citizenship through service to the community.”

The principles of Rotaract are based on the fundamental Rotary ideal of Service Above Self. This calls on Rotaractors and Rotarians to put service to their communities above all else. This is further supported by the ideal of Fellowship through Service, which focuses on the building of bonds of friendship among the Rotaract membership while working together in partnership to serve their community. These principles are embodied within the Rotary Four-Way Test, a challenge for Rotaractors and Rotarians to live by in their personal and professional lives.

Rotaract has the following goals:

– To develop professional and leadership skills

– To emphasise respect for the rights of others, based on recognition of the worth of each individual

– To recognise the dignity and value of all useful occupations as opportunities to serve

– To recognise, practice, and promote ethical standards as leadership qualities and vocational responsibilities

– To develop knowledge and understanding of the needs, problems, and opportunities in the community and worldwide

– To provide opportunities for personal and group activities to serve the community and promote international understanding and goodwill toward all people
